Engaging Activities for Every Interest

At SweetBriar Assisted Living, social connection isn’t a program we offer , it’s an integral part of our community. On any given morning you might find residents gathering in the activities room for morning exercise, working on a craft project, or sharing coffee and conversation after breakfast. By afternoon, the patio is full of fresh air and familiar faces. By evening, there’s live entertainment, a movie, or a seasonal celebration bringing the whole building together.

Our recreation calendar runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s the standard we’ve held for caring for families in the Dunbar and Charleston area.

Whether your loved one wants a quiet afternoon in the art room, a themed celebration with the whole community, or something in between, there is always a place for them here. There’s always an activity for every interest.

Our 24/7 activities schedule is built so there is always something happening across every part of our building and grounds, from the Activity Room and Living Room to the Front Porch and Courtyard.

This keeps SweetBriar energetic and alive throughout the day, and ensures every resident, whatever their pace or preference, finds their place in our close-knit community.

  • Daily Fitness & Movement Programs


    Every day of the week has dedicated fitness programming built in that keeps residents active at their own pace, building strength and starting each morning with intention.

  • Music Therapy & Live Entertainment


    SweetBriar regularly welcomes live performers into our community. Residents enjoy visits from local musicians like Chuck Young and Keith Ellison, as well as special performances that fill the Living Room with energy and bring everyone together.

  • Arts, Crafts & Creative Activities


    From Centerpiece Activity and Tye Dye Shirts to seasonal craft projects throughout the year, our creative programming gives residents the time and space to make something with their hands, try something new, and express themselves. Every finished project reflects the person behind it.

  • Spiritual Life & Faith Services


    We honor the faith traditions of every resident with regular spiritual programming, including weekly services. All backgrounds and beliefs are welcomed and respected at SweetBriar.

  • Community Outings & Off-Campus Adventures


    Residents venture out into Dunbar and the surrounding Kanawha Valley for shopping, meals, and local outings. Whether it’s a quick trip or a seasonal trip, staying connected to the broader community is a regular part of life at SweetBriar.

    At SweetBriar, shared interests have a way of turning neighbors into friends. Residents with a love of books, cards, gardening, or crafts find others who feel the same way, and those connections become a regular part of daily life.

    The SweetBriar social calendar is genuinely full. Bingo runs multiple times a week. Poker, Cornhole, Balloon Toss, and Conversation Ball Toss give residents friendly competition throughout the week. Ice Cream Socials, Popsicle Socials, and Porch Set & Sip keep things light and fun.
